Booking and Release Center Overview

The Booking and Release Center, or BRC, is operated by the Orange County Corrections Department at 3855 South John Young Parkway in Orlando, near Interstate 4. The county calls it the newest correctional facility in the system. It is four stories and about 300,000 square feet, and it holds 592 beds across 12 housing areas. The people held here are new arrestees, those awaiting first appearance, and people in first-days detention or medical and mental-health housing.

What sets the BRC apart is how many criminal-justice functions share the building. The Circuit Court, State Attorney, Public Defender, Clerk of the Courts, Sheriff's Office, and Corrections Department all have offices or functions inside, so booking, first appearance, and release happen in the same place. Arrestees arrive through a 16-car sally port used by 22 law-enforcement agencies.

Booking and Release Center Capacity and Population

The Corrections Department's facilities page lists the Booking and Release Center at 592 beds, part of 3,797 beds across the Orange County jail system. The countywide average daily population was 3,064 in 2025, and the daily report counted 3,007 people in custody systemwide on June 3, 2026. The county does not publish a separate live count for the BRC alone, so the figures below frame the building within the system.

How to Look Up an Inmate at the Booking and Release Center

People held at the Booking and Release Center are found through the county's Current Inmate Database, the BestJail roster, not a separate BRC list. The roster updates within 30 minutes of a record change, and the cell field can show a BRC code. A last name is all you need to start.

1. Open the county's Current Inmate Database.
2. Enter the inmate's last name; the first name is optional.
3. Select Search and open the matching booking number and name.
4. Read the profile for the booking photo, charges, bond, cell, and holds.

Booking and Release Center Address and Contact

The BRC runs intake, bond posting, and release around the clock, and its public windows take bonds 24 hours a day. The Corrections custodian of records, a separate counter, handles public-records requests for booking documents.

Visiting Someone at the Booking and Release Center

Orange County uses video visitation for general visits, and all inmates get three visits a week. The Video Visitation Center is at 3000 39th Street in Orlando, open daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., with the last session starting at 9 p.m. A first appointment must be booked at least a day ahead by calling 407-836-8061. Arrive at least 15 minutes early with a valid driver's license, passport, state ID, or military ID.

Remote visits work from computers and Android devices through the county's GTL VisitMe site, while Apple devices and tablets are not supported. Attorneys and law enforcement report to the North Perimeter Building at 3722 Vision Blvd. for professional visits.

Mail, Phone, and Money at the Booking and Release Center

Regular mail is scanned and delivered through Smart Communications, addressed with the inmate's full name and booking number. Legal mail and money orders use a separate Orlando post office box. Money for an inmate's account goes through ConnectNetwork, and the BRC public lobby also takes deposits in person.

Western Union is no longer accepted for inmate funds as of April 29, 2021, and commissary gift packages run through I-Care.

Regular mail is opened, scanned, reviewed, and delivered on kiosks and tablets, and a mail tracker is available at mailguardtracker.com or 888-253-5178. Books and magazines must be paperback, sent directly from a publisher or bookstore, with no hardcovers, spiral or metal binding, or used copies, and no more than four publications per shipment. Booking and Intake at the Booking and Release Center

Intake at the BRC follows a set path. Officers take custody at the sally port, inventory and store property, and complete medical screening, fingerprinting, a booking photograph, and pretrial screening. The record then enters the county's inmate management system and posts to the public roster within 30 minutes. Staff work to process and release people who can legally and safely return to the community to await court.

The fourth floor holds three courtrooms, one felony and two misdemeanor, with public galleries reached through the lobby after security screening. First appearances, arraignments, felony pleas, bond reduction hearings, and violation-of-probation hearings happen there. This is the start of the path toward the court records that open after an arrest.

Bond and Release at the BRC

The BRC public windows take bonds 24 hours a day, which makes the building the center of release for the whole jail system. To bond someone out, a person can use a licensed bail bond agent or bring the full exact bond amount to the lobby windows. The county brochure says payment is by money order, traveler's check, or certified or cashier's check made payable to the Clerk of the Courts, with no personal checks and no cash for bond.

The brochure also describes expedited bonds, where a person is processed in the public lobby without physically entering the jail, available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. A posted bond may still not release someone who has an unresolved hold, a detainer, or a no-bond charge, so the roster's holds field is worth checking first.

Records Requests for Booking Documents

Booking documents the roster does not display are obtained from the Corrections custodian of public records, an office that is separate from the Sheriff's Office. The distinction matters, because Orange County Corrections holds the jail's booking records while the Sheriff holds law-enforcement reports. Historical booking photos follow a date rule. For people booked on or after November 7, 2005, the jail's Media Relations Office handles photo requests, while earlier photos are requested from the Orange County Sheriff's Office. About the Booking and Release Center

The BRC was built to pull intake, courts, and release into one secure building, which is unusual for a county jail. It includes inmate orientation and worker housing, special medical and mental-health units, a main medical clinic, a pharmacy, a dental clinic, a dialysis area, and an X-ray room, along with offices for classification, records, inmate affairs, pretrial services, and chaplaincy. Because all releases exit through its public lobby, it is also the practical pickup point for families. Corrections Health Services, which staffs the jail's clinics around the clock, was reaccredited by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care after a December 2023 review, and the department, led by Chief Louis A. Quinones Jr., reports accreditation through the ACA, NCCHC, FCAC, and PREA. Once a person is sentenced to prison, custody shifts from the BRC to the Florida Department of Corrections, such as the nearby Central Florida Reception Center.
